The International Spirits and Liqueurs Division manufactures and markets a range of spirits and liqueurs, with brands operating in attractive categories. The division’s brands are distributed in over 80 international markets through a combination of local independent distributors and multinationals such as Campari, Maxxium and William Grant.

The Group’s spirits and liqueurs brands include Carolans Irish Cream, Tullamore Dew, Frangelico and Irish Mist. The strategy for growth of this division has been to focus on brand building in international markets.

Carolans Irish Cream
Carolans

Carolans is the No.2 Irish cream liqueur in the world. Some eight million bottles are sold each year in over 90 countries. It is the No.2 Irish cream liqueur brand in the USA and Canada and sells over 600,000 9L cases per annum globally. The overall cream liqueur category continues to grow on an annual basis.

Carolans also performs well in both established EU countries and emerging markets such as Russia, Poland and the Czech Republic.

First launched in 1979, Carolans’ delicious blend of Irish cream, honey and mellow Irish spirits is still made in County Tipperary - the heart of Ireland’s dairyland - using only the finest local ingredients. Its flavour is considered by many to be unbeatable.

Carolans is targeted at women aged 25–40 and is positioned as the perfect brand for indulgence, luxury and pampering. Once they taste Carolans, consumers frequently express a preference for it over competitors. Consumer research in the USA, using qualitative taste tests, has consistently put Carolans ahead of its key competitor.

Carolans has won numerous medals and awards at international drinks competitions - the latest being a gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey
Tullamore Dew

Tullamore Dew is a premium Irish whiskey with a distinctively smooth and accessible taste. It is the No.2 Irish whiskey brand in the world with sales of over 610,000 cases in 2007. It is currently the fastest growing Irish whiskey brand globally in the fastest growing spirits category.

With growth rates of +20% per annum Tullamore Dew continues to far outstrip the category growth rate. It is now the No.1 Irish whiskey brand in Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Latvia. In the last three of those, it is the No.1 overall whisk(/e)y, significantly outselling Scotch.

Today more than 7,000,000 bottles are bought each year in over 80 countries. Irish whiskey is the only major whiskey/whisky category showing increases on a global scale: between 1996 and 2006 Irish whiskey grew by 5% (CAGR) - the only whisk(e)y category to show this sort of growth. Annual sales of Irish whiskey are currently 3.2 million cases (9 litre equivalent).

The origins of Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey can be traced back to 1829 when the Distillery was founded in Tullamore, County Offaly, situated in the heart of Ireland. The original site now hosts a Heritage Centre where the full history is on display.

Connoisseurs describe Tullamore Dew as “Subtle, smooth and with a pleasant maltiness combined with charred wood undertones and the natural flavour of golden barley”.

The brand has won dozens of awards over the years including a coveted trophy for the best non-Scotch whiskey at the 2005 International Spirits Challenge - one of only four trophies awarded out of over 700 entries.

The last two years have seen the brand win an unprecedented number of medals at different wine and spirit competitions, including London’s International Spirit Challenge and double gold at The World Spirits Competition 2008, as well as a nomination as ‘One to watch’ in 2007 by the prestigious magazine Drinks International.

Irish Mist
Irish Mist

Imagine the wonderful sweet taste of aged Irish whiskey blended with honey and herbs to a perfect smoothness. That’s Irish Mist – a classic liqueur with a great taste and steeped in history.

Based on a traditional recipe for heather wine, Irish Mist’s delicious blend of honey, herbs and spices was first experienced by the chieftains and nobles of Ireland’s ancient clans.

The secret recipe all but disappeared with the last great exodus of the Irish Earls in 1691, only to be rediscovered on an ancient manuscript brought by a traveller from Europe to Ireland.

In 1947, Irish Mist became the first liqueur to be produced in Ireland and that same great taste prevails.

The brand sells primarily in United States and duty-free and is manufactured at the Group’s plant in Clonmel.
